Not All Heroes Wear Capes 5K Run & Walk!

This past weekend my partner Jack and I had the opportunity to volunteer at a local DECA project's 5K Run and Walk on September 10, 2016!

Katherine Tobichuk, Taylor Peterson and Meghan Piller are three King Philip seniors who are spending their last year in DECA by raising money and awareness for the Wounded Warrior Project. The WWP strives to honor and empower wounded warriors. Their purpose is to raise awareness and enlist the public’s aid for the needs of injured service members, to help injured service members to aid and assist each other, and to provide unique, direct programs and services to meet the needs of injured service members. The three seniors have created a campaign, Not All Heroes Wear Capes, to help the WWP!

For their first event, they hosted a 5K Run and Walk early Saturday morning. The event consisted of music, raffles, games, and even a kids run! The group was able to raise $1,500 in one day and the turn out was great.

Jack and I wanted to help out our fellow DECA friends and work the water stand for runners passing by. With a 3 mile run, we knew they would need hydration as well as some encouragement! We had a fun time volunteering and meeting some of the runners. This also allowed Jack and me to learn a little bit more of our friends project and the impact they are making in the community.

With this being their first event, they did an amazing job and we were so proud of them! Helping other DECA groups out with events and such are crucial for creating awareness as well as creating a good foundation for projects. We will without a doubt be helping NAHWC in the future with events and creating awareness!
