Aware to Care Blood Drive!

On Tuesday, November 1st, the Aware to Care team hosted their first blood drive at the King Philip High School. Myself, Jack and Jason hosted the blood drive from 2 to 7 p.m. in the high school's cafeteria. The turnout was amazing!

47 people presented to donate at the blood drive that day - this is quite a high number due to the fact the blood drive opened an hour late from unexpected issues. Many people showed willingness to donate; many people even came back to donate which we extremely appreciated.

Here are some more interesting results from our blood drive:

Out of the 47 people who presented only 11 were not able to donate due to a number of factors.

  • 33 donors gave a pint of whole blood!

  • 3 performed a Power Red Cell procedure - for 6 units of red cells!

  • In total, 39 units of life saving blood in total were collected!

With each unit helping 3 patients in need of a blood transfusion, 117 lives have been potentially saved through our efforts to help those in need; of course, this would not have been possible without the help of the donors themselves.

We also want to save a huge thanks to our Red Cross Event Managers, Doreen Greene and Maribeth Stacey, two individuals who have been working with us on this blood drive since August!

With an amazing turnout we now are planning to host another Red Cross Blood Drive this upcoming spring; hopefully, with much more donations!

Below are some pictures from the blood drive; again, thanks to everyone who came out and supported our campaign!
